What are the driving rules in Kish and what gets fined?

Everyday rules
Secondary lists give about 60 km/h in town and about 80 km/h outside town. Junctions are roundabouts: stop fully before entering and give way. Seatbelts are compulsory for everyone and indicators should be used at least 100 metres early.
What surprises visitors
From a secondary source (2026-09-11), not an official decree, but consistent with local accounts:

- Stunt driving can mean the car is held up to 48 hours at the driver's cost.

Fines and inquiries
Local sources say a rental car's fine must be paid on the island before the car is released. Per the official ports portal, island fines are collected at the Kish port gate on exit. A secondary source names an online system, traffic.kish.ir, and an SMS service for fine inquiries.
Kish plates and leaving the island
A free-zone plate is by default valid only inside the zone; leaving temporarily needs a temporary-pass permit. The rule changed repeatedly in 1405: a notice on 3 Khordad asking cars to return, news on 20 Khordad that free-zone plates could travel nationwide, and on 2 Shahrivar news that they may not leave Hormozgan province. With the position flipping in under four months, treat no version as final.

Technical inspection
The official car-ticket portal required a valid technical inspection card and third-party insurance in its Nowruz 1404 entry guidance; see today's terms there. Kish rental regulations also require rental cars to carry valid inspection. We found no retrievable official source for the fee, validity period or Kish-versus-national plate differences, so we quote none.
